The Case Against Myself

Written in 1977

I am a prisoner
Chained in fear
I live in a vacuum
Each moment is
A threat
A poisoned dart
Ready to be fatal.

Sometimes the sun
Shines through.
It makes the blackness
Blacker.

And so I went upstairs
Slammed the door
In my own face
This being an
Old friend
Is a damn piece of business.

Look who rebels
Look at the oppression
Flying thick through
The air
Such rebellion
When I'm faced with
What I preach.
