Written in 1980
I feel the martyrs blood
Welling through the ground
It's lain beneath
These endless years.
I hear them calling
I envy them: courage
And final rest.
Through the swirling darkness
Black agony on wood
The price of white-hot
Shining souls that love
Beyond the dust
Of this world's life.
O wooden limbs thus crossed
I curl myself beneath Your
Towering pain
Before all eternity
You paid the price.
Frailty's strength
O be my resting place.
