Three Small Poems

Written in 1977

MEMORIES
Too dark they come
Too dark to consider
Or love.
Timeless they remain until
On some daylight's wane
Or cloudy sky above
They come trembling,
Slipping into words
I couldn't speak then.

TO ST.CATHERINE OF SIENA
Before my eyes
I watch you work,
Taking the bones
Of human rot
And carefully
Bit by bit
Build a temple
Of pulsing life
Not minding
That its final form
Has yet to be
Completed.

DEVILS
I feel you biding your time
I resent you hovering
Always around
Always around.

Damn my impatience I say
Go ahead, go
But you won't
Until you're ready.
