Do you remember, Lord
Your wrath
In the temple of old,
The rope you knotted and
The tables you overturned?
Do the sounds that reach
Unto your Father's house
Recall the temper of that time?
Do the saints and angels
Gathered around the sacredness of
This saving altar,
Plug their ears like I do?
I cannot help but wonder
Do the insults of these musicians
With their sensual noises, loud,
Emotions from the gutter,
Self-satisfactions,
Cry out to you.?
For I cry
And long for the holy chant
That has woven through the ages
And was sung by You
The night of Your great love,
That holy chant in solitude
Monastic
In rhythm with nature's
Praise of You.
Just a question.
In agony often felt,
In hope prayed for,
O Love of blessed chant.
